An Post Education Awards - winners and runners-up announced
6 May 2008
Primary school students from all over Ireland took part, hoping to win great prizes for their school and to attend the awards ceremony in May.
This year, An Post asked students and teachers to get together as a class to create and write a story. There is one overall winner and two runners-up in each category.
An Post is delighted with the response from Primary Schools all over the country. The students have put in so much effort and the interest in who will win is huge. This is the first year that literacy and story telling are themes of the Education Awards, while An Post has run a popular schools education programme for over 20 years.
The standard of the entries was really high, with ghosts, monsters, adventures, mysteries, unexpected twists and surprises on every page. Each class also illustrated their story and created a cover for their original story idea.
Each winning student received a (new window 7mb) book containing the four winning stories which we have posted here.

Thank You
An Post sends a big ‘thank you’ and ‘well done’ message to every teacher and class who participated in this years competition. It was brilliant to read and enjoy the wonderful stories created by classes all over Ireland.
The main aims of the Education Awards this year are the enjoyment of the students in being creative through words and the participation of the entire class to create a story together based on sharing knowledge and ideas. This is part of a broader campaign by An Post to raise literacy awareness among people of all ages in Ireland.
